No, it does make sense and I think you're right, because even if people didn't write down these fantasies and share them, they'd still be thinking about them, still getting off on them.
I mean, even though I wouldn't ever bother writing it, I still sometimes have happy little day dreams speculating about actor x and y. I would squee if a certain actor turned out to be dating a certain actress.
